3 Common Pet Emergencies That Need Immediate Care

Mar 14, 2023

According to CNBC, nearly 70% of American households have a pet. However, many people find themselves unprepared to handle emergency situations with their pets. What are some of the more critical ones that pet owners need to be ready to address? Here are three of them.

1. Severe Bleeding

If your pet is bleeding profusely and doesn't show any signs of it stopping within the next five minutes, you need to consider going to one of the pet emergency clinics in your area. This is especially important if your vet is closed for the evening. Knowing where your nearest emergency clinic is can save you a lot of precious time that you can use to get them to a qualified animal doctor.

2. Unconsciousness

If you find your pet in an unresponsive state and they're not waking up, you need to take them to get veterinary care as soon as possible. The staff at the pet emergency clinic will work on reviving them from their unconscious state. Be sure to tell them everything you know about anything your pet ate or drank that they shouldn't have.

3. Seizures

There can be a lot of different reasons why your pet is having a seizure. Until a vet figures out the reasons behind the seizure, it's important to treat it as a medical emergency and bring your pet to one of your local pet emergency clinics for immediate care. That way, things may be solved early on, and treatment can begin. You have to look out for other things in your pet, like bleeding from their noses, mouths, or rectum, choking, eye injuries, eating poison, showing signs of pain or anxiety, vomiting, or showing signs of heat stress or heatstroke, and not drinking for over 24 hours.

When you get a pet, you have a responsibility to take care of them, and this includes acting quickly when you notice that they are having an emergency. Waiting can be very damaging to their health and even possibly fatal. If you are worried about finances, many places have payment plans to ensure you can take care of your beloved pet in their time of need. Are you worried about your pet's health? Contact the Emergency Animal Hospital of Crystal Falls today to see what we can do to help them.
